Bam takes part in CCPC meeting
ITANAGAR, Nov 18: The Global Human Rights Organization (GHRO) chairman Goken Bam who is also member of central consumer protection council (CCPC) has attended the 27th meeting of the CCPC held under the chairmanship of Prof. K.V Thomas Union Minister of State (independent charge) Consumer Affairs, Food and public distribution at Kochi in Kerala on 16th November. During the meeting many issues like misleading advertisements, unfair trade practices and containment of wastages of food items were discussed. Goken highlighted the issues related to the consumer awareness and protection activities in Arunachal and functioning of State Consumer Dispute Redressal Forum.

ACS appeals Govt to support AWS
ITANAGAR, Nov 18: Executive members of Arunachal Civil Society (ACS) lead by its secretary general and Advocate John Likha today visited Rehabilitation Centre, ‘Mother’s Home’ at Lekhi village run by Achukuru Welfare Society (AWS) an NGO.
During their visit, the team members interacted with the AWS chairperson Tailyang Shanti. Shanti on her part, informed the visiting team that the NGO is dedicated for the wellbeing of the poor and helpless people. No financial assistance received from Govt and any other source to run the Home so far.
While appreciating the humanitarian service offered by the NGO, the ACS appealed the Chief Minister and state Govt as a whole to extend all possible help to the T Shanti for smooth running of the Mothers Home. Arunachal Civil Society chairman also requested other NGOs to extend a helping hand to the AWS in its noble works.

Govt to develop sports infrastructure in phased manner: Tuki

ITANAGAR, Nov 18: The 32nd National Junior Boys and Girls Taekwondo Championship began at Rajiv Gandhi Stadium, Naharlagun today.
Over 700 players from 31 states are participating in the championship which will be held in 10 weight categories for both boys and girls. A total of 80 medals¬ 20 Gold, 20 Silver and 40 Bronze, will be up for grabs. Poomse, the competition of imaginary fighting movement, has been excluded from this edition of the championship due to some technical reasons. Attending the opening ceremony, Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Nabam Tuki reiterated his commitment for making Arunachal Pradesh a leading state in sports through target oriented action plans. Admitting the poor sports infrastructure facilities in the state, Tuki said that his government has planned to develop necessary sports infrastructure in all the districts in phased manner. He also announced that fund for construction of a multipurpose taekwondo hall will be sanctioned under SPA.
Informing about the adoption of a comprehensive sports policy for development of games and sports sector, Tuki said that his Government has taken up various steps to promote sports and encourage the sportspersons to perform better. Lucrative incentives of up to Rs 2 crore for Olympic gold medalist, employment through reservation policy were some of the major initiatives taken by his government, Tuki said. He hoped that these incentives would encourage more talented youths to take up sports professionally. Tuki expressed his immense pleasure to see players from all over the country participating in the championship.
“Your participation is more important than winning because winning and losing are
part and parcel of any sports. Hence, one should not dishearten by failure,” Tuki
said while welcoming the participating players and officials from various states.
He urged the youths to take inspiration from MC Mary Kom, who despite being from
a poor family rose to the pinnacle of success through her grit, determination, sincerity
and hard practice. He also advised them to take this opportunity to make new friends

Arunachal Taekwondo Association president Kipa Kaha expressed his gratitude to TFI for reposing faith on Arunachal Taekwondo Association (ATA) to shoulder the huge task of organizing the mega event. He also thanked the state government led by Chief Minister Tuki for extending all help in organizing the championship.

NES Silver Jubilee celebration gets underway
ITANAGAR, Nov 18: The silver jubilee celebration of the Nyishi Elite Society (NES) began with the hoisting of NES flag by its president Bengia Tolum amidst rendition of flag song at the general ground, Koloriang in Kurung Kumey district Saturday.
Tolum along with NES vice president (East) Tarin Dakpe and assistant general secretary Tarh Tabin released three pigeons as a symbol of peace, progress and prosperity on the occasion. The NES also felicitated Bengia Chapo in recognition of his hard work and achievement in his professional career. By dint of his hard work, Chapo became the joint secretary, Arunachal legislative assembly.
In his presidential address, Tolum dwelt at length on the history of Nyishi social movements and their historical achievements. Informing that K/Kumey district receives the highest number of NES awards every year in professional and academic sphere, Tolum gave a clarion call to nurture the hidden talents of the youth force and womenfolk. Terming the women, particularly mothers as the builders of the future of the community, Bengia said, women have to play a proactive role in upbringing their children for vibrant future. He urged the womenfolk not to concentrate only on prototype agenda like child marriage, forced marriage and polygamy which has become obsolete in the present day world, rather to switch over for the women empowerment.
On the dismal law and order situation, he exhorted the district administration to keep strict vigil and also urged the common people, especially youths to act as civil police. He further urged the Govt officers, particularly local officers to fulfill their moral obligation towards infrastructure development with optimum use of fund.
In his address, former general secretary of the NES Techi Nyokum urged the younger generation to work hard to excel in their respective field of activities and discourage mushrooming of organizations. While discouraging early marriage, Techi, who was the first ANSU general secretary, exhorted the political leaders to maintain unity and harmony.

The wave of excitement seen in cricket frenzy Seppa ahead of the tournament has undoubtedly proved Yaja Waii Memorial T20 Cricket Championship as one of the most popular sporting events. The tournament is the biggest T20 Cricket league in entire North East in terms of prize money.

The stage has already set for the final showdown and countdown is ticking faster each day, as the twelve teams from across the state are ready to vie with each other for the top honor.
The people of this district love every sport. This was admitted by tournament chief patron Kumar Waii, who is also Parliamentary Secretary, RWD.
“In our district every sport discipline is loved by people”, Waii said. He hoped that this championship would provide a good platform to the cricketers to show their skills and leave room for youngsters to learn from them. He said the whole district is eagerly waiting for the ensuing tournament and the people are also cooperative and curious for the championship.
There is also report that thousands of people are coming down to Seppa to enjoy all the 28 matches to be played during the 16 days tournament.
Organizing Chairman Karbia Dodum informed this correspondent that cricket fever has already gripped the Seppa town and the atmosphere was also perfect and sportive. Every people here are eagerly waiting to see the tournament to begin.
Besides cricket fever among people, there was a sense of competition among the participating teams. “It is very nice to see that everybody is practicing very hard to prepare themselves for the tournament,” quipped Tsering Jomoh, a player of the defending champion Pacha Highlander.

Mumbai bids tearful farewell to Bal Thackeray, city shuts down
MUMBAI, Nov 18: The mortal remains of Bal Thackeray, a Hindutva mascot and flagbearer of Marathi pride, were consigned to flames on Sunday evening as lakhs of mourners joined the Shiv Sena founder's grieving family to bid him a tearful farewell, with the city observing a virtual shutdown.
In a spontaneous outpouring of grief, a sea of humanity, unprecedented in recent memory, descended on the streets leading from "Matoshree", Thackeray's Bandra home, to Shivaji Park, to catch the last glimpse of the uncrowned king of Mumbai.

Conspicuous by his absence from the truck carrying a massive poster of Thackeray against the image of the tiger, the Sena's symbol, with saffron flags aflutter, was his nephew and MNS boss Raj Thackeray who chose to walk some distance with the mourners before taking care of arrangements for the funeral at Shivaji Park.
As the procession inched towards "Shiv Sena Bhavan", the party headquarters, tens of thousands supporters and onlookers lined the streets, balconies and flyovers, with many clambering atop lamp posts and trees to catch a sight of the leader. Many showered the mourners with flower petals.
It took the cortege nearly 8 hours to cover the 10km stretch between "Matoshree" and Shivaji Park.
The cortege made a brief halt at "Shiv Sena Bhavan", built by Thackeray in 1977, where his body was kept for top party leaders to pay homage to the Shiv Sena patriarch. It was out of bounds for the common Sena workers. PTI
State BJP mourns Thackeray's death
Meanwhile, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Arunachal Pradesh deeply mourned the death of Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray in Mumbai.
In a condolence meeting held at Party headquarter at Itanagar, State BJP president Dr Tangor Tapak said late Thackeray was a great patriot who always raised voice for the cause of the nation. The void created with the death of Thackeray will never be filled, he said.

Dear Editor,
This is in reference to news items published in a section of local dailies on Nov 9 and 10 whereas it was said that ARC Bagra was assaulted in Arunachal House in full public view and subsequently punishment was demanded against the accused by various sections of the society. Indeed, it was shocking news for the citizens of the state and it also really hurts my sentiment and damaged my reputation and image. I vehemently refute the allegation leveled against me by fabricating a false story which tried to tarnish my name and the clan as a whole.
The so called fourth pillar (the Print media of the State) without verifying the actual facts has blindly carried the news on the behest of some vested interested politicians who are hand in glove with the these media persons just to gain cheap political mileage out of the minor incident that happened on 7th November night.
I would like clarify the allegations leveled against me. On that night I along with my personal friends including Minister Atun Welly went for dinner in a famous restaurant. After the dinner we departed, I with my friends headed to Arunachal House at around 12.30 am to have a discussion with Welly who had already reached the Arunachal House ahead of us since he was to fly back to Guwahati early morning at 6 am. Just as we got down from the vehicle I happened to have exchanged hot words with my friends on some matter and I lost my temper during the argument and took up a flower pot of the house and threw it on him. The pot missed him and broke 2 glass window panels near the reception counter.
Meantime, someone had informed the police and they instantly reached the spot and asked us to come to police station, Chanakya. I voluntarily went with the police as I was solely responsible for the breaking of window glass. During this whole episode no officer of the Bhawan had appeared to pacify us, nor Bagra and Atun Welly were present during the incident.
Just as we were about to leave for police station Bagra appeared and had a look at me whereas there was no argument or fight in between us as reported in the media. Later on while I was in police station, Damo, DRC (Deputy Resident Commissioner) Delhi and Bagra came to me and begged apology for lodging a false FIR accusing me that I physically assaulted Bagra. They immediately withdrew the FIR without my request and informed me that they were forced from the high level to lodge the complaint. Now I would like to inform that there is no case pending against me in Chanakya police station Delhi in connection with the fabricated and false story.
Taking serious cognizance of the issue I would caution those persons who are spreading rumors and are trying to defame my name and clan to have momentary political edge out of this minor incident. I also appeal various student organizations to verify the facts before proceeding for any reaction. Any one who is interested to know the more about actual facts may contact Bagra, ARC Delhi.

UN vows to do better in Sri Lanka

Upon making the report public recently, Ban voiced his resolve for the UN to learn from its findings in order to better serve humanity, especially people caught in conflict.
The Panel of Experts’ report raised a number of issues, including those regarding the UN response to the situation facing civilians in the north of Sri Lanka in the last months of the war. It recommended a comprehensive review of action by the United Nations system during the war in Sri Lanka and the aftermath, regarding the implementation of its humanitarian and protection mandates which, in turn, led to the internal UN review.
The report called the Secretary-
The UN’s failure to adequately respond to events like those that occurred in Sri Lanka should not happen again. When confronted by similar situations, the UN must be able to meet a much higher standard in fulfilling its protection and humanitarian responsibilities, said the report.
